About APA HERITAGE FOUNDATION

The APA Heritage Foundation is a San Francisco–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that organizes and funds the City and County of San Francisco’s official Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month celebrations. Founded in 2009 and incorporated as a nonprofit in 2010, the Foundation coordinates the annual APA Heritage Awards & Gala Reception, produces a month-long Celebration Guide of community events, and leads citywide visibility campaigns. In recent years the Foundation has continued regular programming and partnerships with major cultural institutions (including the Asian Art Museum, the Center for Asian American Media, and the San Francisco Public Library), produced the 2024 and 2025 AAPI Heritage Month schedules and awards ceremonies, and maintained a broad publicity network to amplify AAPI cultural events across the city.

Notable achievements

Official Citywide AAPI Month Coordinator

Established and continues to coordinate San Francisco’s official Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, working with the City and County and civic partners to produce city proclamations, City Hall lighting, and other civic visibility actions.

Annual APA Heritage Awards & Gala

Produces the signature APA Heritage Awards and Gala Reception that honors organizations and individuals for service to the AAPI community; the awards ceremony serves as the kickoff for the city’s month-long celebrations.

Large-scale community engagement and promotion

Compiles and distributes an annual AAPI Heritage Month Celebration Guide and runs coordinated visibility campaigns involving over 100 public and media partners, MUNI and bus ads, and street/banner placements to amplify community events citywide.
