About SAN FRANCISCO COMMUNITY INVESTMENT FUND

The San Francisco Community Investment Fund (SFCIF) is a nonprofit financial institution established in 2010 and administered by the City and County of San Francisco to deploy New Markets Tax Credits (NMTCs) and subsidized financing for projects in low‑income neighborhoods. SFCIF invests in real estate and working capital for nonprofits, small businesses, and community projects that deliver documented community benefits — including job creation, childcare and healthcare access, arts and cultural space, food security, and environmental sustainability — and operates as a certified Community Development Entity (CDE). In recent years SFCIF has remained active in awarding NMTC‑based financing and public funding rounds (including a federal NMTC allocation announced Oct 18, 2024), and since its founding has helped catalyze substantial investment and job creation in historically underserved San Francisco neighborhoods.

Notable achievements

2024 NMTC Allocation ($60M)

Received a $60 million federal New Markets Tax Credit allocation (announced Oct 18, 2024) to support nonprofits and local businesses in low‑income San Francisco neighborhoods.

2017 NMTC Allocation ($30M)

Catalyzed Local Investment

Since its founding in 2010, SFCIF has helped attract hundreds of millions in investment to underserved neighborhoods — supporting projects that have generated substantial construction employment and expanded local community services.
