About KINGS COUNTY TENNIS LEAGUE INC

Kings County Tennis League (KCTL) is a Brooklyn-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2010 that brings free, staff-led tennis programming directly into public housing developments, community centers, and partner courts throughout Brooklyn. The organization combines on-court coaching with mentorship, field trips, and educational supports to promote physical, social, and academic development for youth ages 3–18. KCTL operates club-style programming across multiple NYCHA developments and partner sites and reports serving nearly 1,000 young people through its pathway programming. In recent years KCTL has expanded its physical footprint and program offerings, renovated public courts, grown volunteer engagement, and secured multi-year philanthropic support to sustain and scale its work. KCTL runs seasonal and year-round activities including community clubs (the Kings County League clubs), tournaments and celebrations (Davis Cup, Jamboree, Fall Classic), volunteer-led clinics, and targeted initiatives for middle-school aged youth to reduce dropout from sports and increase long-term engagement.

Notable achievements

Court renovation & capacity expansion (2024)

In 2024 KCTL invested in renovating three full-size public courts (including De Hostos Park in South Williamsburg) and expanded court capacity from one to six full-size courts to increase access for middle-school and teen players.

Major philanthropic pledge

In late 2024 KCTL received a $100,000 multi-year donation pledge from Brooklyn-based artist Eddie Martinez (with an initial installment paid in 2024) earmarked to expand programming for ages 12–15 and support court improvements.

Program scale and volunteer engagement

KCTL’s pathway programming reaches nearly 1,000 young people ages 3–18 across six NYCHA developments, ten community centers, and partner sites; the organization engages roughly 150 volunteers who contributed over 2,000 hours of programming support in recent years.
