About Threads Dance Project
Threads Dance Project is a Minneapolis-based, BIPOC-led 501(c)(3) dance organization founded by Karen L. Charles in 2011. The company produces concert dance works, commissions emerging choreographers (with emphasis on BIPOC and female creators), and operates community-facing programs that include youth training (NexGen), adult classes, and public workshops.
Threads maintains a community home called the Threads Dance Nexus where it offers discounted rentals to BIPOC creators, need-based scholarships for youth participants, and space for rehearsals and classes. In recent years the organization has continued its Tapestries commissioning program, presented season performances and film work, expanded artist support practices, and marked its 15th anniversary of programming and community engagement.
