About AFRICAN LEADERS MALARIA ALLIANCE INC
African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) Inc is the U.S. nonprofit entity established to provide fiscal oversight and support to the ALMA secretariat, a coalition of African Union Heads of State and Government working to eliminate malaria in Africa by 2030. ALMA’s work focuses on driving accountability and action through country and continental scorecard tools, supporting the creation and operation of national End Malaria Councils and Funds, youth engagement, and efforts to strengthen local manufacturing and pandemic preparedness. In the last 2–3 years ALMA has published quarterly scorecard reports (including 2024 summaries) highlighting financing shortfalls, supported the roll-out and monitoring of next-generation vector control and vaccine deployment, and helped mobilise multisectoral coalitions at country level. The organization operates in close partnership with AU institutions, regional economic communities and global health partners, providing technical assistance and data tools (the ALMA Scorecard Hub) that countries use to track progress on malaria, neglected tropical diseases, RMNCAH and nutrition and to prioritise action and resources at national and subnational levels.
Notable achievements
ALMA Scorecard deployment
Developed and operates the ALMA Scorecard Hub — a digital, evidence-based scorecard used by AU member states to track malaria, NTDs, RMNCAH and nutrition performance, inform quarterly reporting and guide national decision-making.
National End Malaria Councils & Funds
Supported the establishment and scaling of multisectoral End Malaria Councils and Funds in multiple African countries; these national mechanisms have mobilised substantial financial and in-kind commitments to sustain malaria programmes.
Driving local manufacturing and partnerships
Contributed to high-level partnerships and initiatives to expand local manufacturing capacity for malaria commodities (nets, medicines, vaccines) and engaged development finance and regional agencies to advance continent-wide production efforts.
