About LEARN LONESTAR EDUCATION AND RESEARCH NETWORK
LEARN (Lonestar Education and Research Network) is a Texas-based 501(c)(3) consortium that builds and operates a high-performance optical and IP backbone to connect universities, community colleges, K–12 public schools, libraries, healthcare institutions, federal partners and other public-service organizations across the state. The organization provides carrier-grade network services, peering, cloud and research network connectivity to enable large-data research, distance learning, telehealth and shared services for its members. In recent years LEARN has expanded member services and resiliency—modernizing its Network Operations Center, deploying 100 Gbps peering connections as part of regional exchange collaborations, and running pilot programs (including NSF-funded projects and library connectivity pilots) to extend high-speed access to community colleges and rural libraries. LEARN currently serves dozens of institutional members and hundreds of affiliated organizations statewide and acts as Texas’s conduit to national and international research & education networks. LEARN’s recent audited/filing-level financials show annual operating revenues in the roughly $10M range and net assets in the mid-to-high tens of millions, reflecting sustained program-service activity, capitalized network infrastructure, and ongoing member-funded operations.
