About EDUCATIONAL COMMISSION OF THE STATES

Education Commission of the States (commonly known as ECS) is a long-established, nonpartisan national organization and interstate compact that provides research, data, policy tracking and technical assistance to governors, state legislators, state education chiefs and other state-level education decisionmakers. ECS maintains state policy tracking tools and 50-state comparisons, publishes policy reports and briefs, and convenes commissioners and state education leaders for meetings and communities of practice to share approaches and produce actionable policy guidance. In recent years ECS has published multiple policy reports and 50-state analyses, tracked thousands of state education bills, answered hundreds of information requests from policymakers, and led multi-year Chair’s Initiatives focused on issues such as education access for justice-impacted individuals and community hubs for student supports.
