About FRIENDS OF EDUCATION

Friends of Education is a Minnesota 501(c)(3) nonprofit (founded in 1999) based in Minnetonka that serves primarily as a charter school authorizer and supporter of K–12 education programs across the state. Friends provides oversight, accountability, and fiscal review for a portfolio of charter schools (including, for example, Eagle Ridge Academy, St. Croix Preparatory Academy, DaVinci Academy and New Millennium Academy), publishes annual authorizer and accountability reports, and runs an application process and information sessions for prospective charter schools. In recent years Friends of Education has been active in authorizer evaluation and portfolio oversight: it received the Minnesota Department of Education’s highest (Exemplary) authorizer rating in recent evaluations and has continued to expand its oversight activities, publish annual reports, and manage grant and fiscal resources to support school performance and compliance.
