About NONVIOLENT PEACEFORCE

Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is an international nongovernmental organization that implements Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP) to reduce violence, protect civilians, and strengthen local peace capacities in conflict-affected areas. Founded as a U.S. 501(c)(3) entity with a U.S. office in the Minneapolis area, NP deploys trained, unarmed civilian teams in partnership with local organizations and communities to provide protective presence, monitoring, capacity-building, early warning/response, and accompaniment. In recent years NP has combined field deployments in multiple conflict contexts with advocacy and pilot community-safety initiatives inside the United States, working with local partners to adapt UCP methods for community-led safety, youth engagement, and trauma-informed support. The organization maintains formal engagement with international institutions and continues to expand evidence-informed programming and training for local actors and allied organizations.

Notable achievements

Sustained multi-country field operations

Maintained active field programs and local partnerships across multiple conflict-affected settings (including programs in Iraq, Myanmar, Sudan and Ukraine in recent years), deploying protection teams, training local protection networks, and supporting community-led safety mechanisms.

Scaled U.S. community safety work

Expanded domestic programming and pilots—working with community groups in Minnesota and other U.S. cities—to adapt unarmed civilian protection methods for local safety, reaching thousands of community members through trainings, peace teams, and local coordination initiatives.

Stable fiscal growth and program investment

Reported multi‑million dollar annual revenues in recent filings (fiscal year 2024 reporting) and directed approximately three quarters of expenses toward program services, enabling continued field deployments, local capacity building, and program expansion.
