About FRIENDS OF JACKSONVILLE ANIMALS INC

Friends of Jacksonville Animals (FOJA) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 2008 that works in partnership with the City of Jacksonville Animal Care & Protective Services (ACPS) to improve outcomes for shelter animals. FOJA’s flagship Heart Care Program funds life-saving heartworm treatment and other medical interventions for shelter pets, and the organization also supports foster care, adoption promotion, shelter enrichment and targeted medical support when municipal funding is insufficient. FOJA operates primarily through donations, grants and community fundraising; it maintains an active public-facing website, a regular events calendar, and partnerships with national and local animal-welfare groups to expand lifesaving capacity in Jacksonville.

Flagship Heart Care Program (large-scale impact)

FOJA’s Heart Care Program has treated thousands of heartworm-positive shelter dogs since the program began (first treated in 2009), marked the 4,000th dog treated in December 2021, and reported surpassing 5,000 shelter dogs treated by December 2025.
