About EAST EDINA HOUSING FOUNDATION

East Edina Housing Foundation is a Minnesota 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Edina that works with the City of Edina and local housing partners to create and preserve affordable and workforce housing. The foundation operates a subordinate financing program (branded Come Home 2 Edina) that provides down‑payment/subordinate loans and also acquires property for affordable and senior housing projects. The organization maintains significant assets and regularly partners with the Edina HRA, developers, and municipal programs to support housing initiatives in the community.

The foundation owns or has held properties used for affordable or senior housing redevelopment and has acted as a funding and land partner on multi‑unit projects and site acquisitions. Financial activity in recent filings shows program revenue and investment income supporting its housing activities and a multi‑million dollar asset base used to underwrite loans and property acquisitions. The board is composed of local community leaders and the foundation typically operates without paid staff, using board and municipal partnerships to administer programs.

In recent years the foundation continued to operate its Come Home 2 Edina downpayment assistance program (which has helped many local households become homeowners) but announced a temporary pause on new applications when repayments and program cashflow fell short of new demand. The foundation remains active in property acquisitions and development partnerships while program intake is reviewed and resourced for future sustainability.

Notable achievements

Longstanding down‑payment assistance program

Significant asset and funding growth

Reported multi‑million dollar contributions and investment income in recent years that materially increased the foundation’s net assets, enabling continued lending and property development activity in the Edina area.
