About RAKHMA INC

Rakhma Inc. is a Minnesota-based nonprofit that provides person-centered residential memory care for individuals living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other forms of memory loss. The organization operates multiple licensed, home-like residences in the Twin Cities area and accepts private pay as well as residents who qualify for Medical Assistance and state waiver programs. Founded in 1984, Rakhma developed and continues to operate a social-model of residential care that emphasizes meaningful engagement, belonging, and dignity through everyday household activities and consistent staffing. The model is explicitly designed to reduce anxiety and behavioral symptoms by offering a small, familiar home environment with high staff-to-resident ratios. Rakhma serves a modest number of residents across its licensed homes (three residences reported in recent filings) and reported program spending and operational activity in its most recent fiscal filings, including capital and program improvements supported by Minnesota’s Living Well at Home grant program. Recent financials show a strong share of spending directed to program services and continued operation as an active 501(c)(3).

Notable achievements

Pioneered the residential social-model (founded 1984)

Rakhma created one of the earliest residential, social-model memory-care homes in Minnesota in 1984; the approach expanded to multiple homes and has influenced similar residential models in the region.

Sustained care for Medicaid-eligible residents

Rakhma maintains an inclusive admission policy that accepts Medical Assistance and multiple waiver programs, enabling continued residential memory care access for lower-income older adults.

Facility and program upgrades via state grant

In recent years Rakhma completed capital and program improvements — including a new elevator, exterior upgrades, and program enhancements — supported in part by Minnesota’s Living Well at Home grant program.
