About Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless

Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless is a Minnesota-based grantmaking organization (EIN 36-3488089) that funds and strengthens food shelves, emergency shelters, outreach programs, and related frontline services across the state. The foundation operates targeted grant programs—including Community Impact Grants, the Summer Challenge, Special Projects, and student scholarships—to address urgent infrastructure and basic-needs gaps for people experiencing food and housing insecurity.

The organization is donor-facing and actively publishes annual reports, Form 990s, and financial statements. In recent years OYH has emphasized rapid-response emergency funding (including during the COVID-19 pandemic), statewide matching campaigns for food shelves during summer months, and ongoing small-to-midsize grants designed to produce quick, tangible improvements in shelter and food-shelf capacity. It maintains a small staff supported by a working board of directors and distributes grants statewide, prioritizing organizations with limited fundraising capacity.
