About GLOBAL HEALTH MINISTRIES

Global Health Ministries (GHM) is a Minneapolis-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 36-3532234) founded in 1987 that supports Lutheran and other mission-driven hospitals, clinics, nursing schools, and community health programs in low- and middle-income countries. GHM operates a donation-based warehouse and shipping program that matches donated and purchased medical supplies and equipment to partner requests and organizes volunteer-led suitcase shipments. In addition to shipping supplies, GHM invests in leadership development and training—providing scholarships and in-country training for doctors, nurses, midwives, lab technicians, and community health workers—and works with partners on infrastructure projects (including renewable energy) and community-based primary health care. The organization maintains audited financials, regular annual reporting, and an active donor-facing web presence.

Notable achievements

Large-scale medical shipments (2023)

In 2023 GHM shipped the equivalent of more than $4.4 million in medical supplies and equipment (over 151 tons) to partner facilities in 25 countries, releasing one 40' sea container per month and serving nearly 200 health facilities and nursing schools.

Health workforce training and scholarships (2023)

GHM funded scholarships and training for 1,658 health workers in 2023 and supported more than 1,382 community health workers across programs in El Salvador, Madagascar, Nigeria and Tanzania, expanding community-based primary health care coverage to populations totaling over 570,000.

Solar energy & infrastructure projects in Liberia (2025–2026)

GHM supported design, shipping and installation of major solar power systems for multiple mission hospitals and training centers in Liberia—projects completed in 2026 that deliver reliable, 24/7 electricity for patient care, water pumping and training facilities, reducing dependence on diesel generators and improving clinical services.
