About Philanthrofund Foundation Inc. (PFund Foundation)

Philanthrofund Foundation Inc., operating as PFund Foundation, is a community-led regional foundation founded by and for LGBTQ+ people that serves Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and the First Nations therein. It stewards endowed funds, mobilizes donor resources, and runs community-led participatory grantmaking and scholarship programs to advance LGBTQ+ equity across the Upper Midwest. In recent years PFund has grown its programmatic footprint and grantmaking: it expanded the PRISM rural capacity-building program (notably increasing awards in 2023), reported more than $2.1 million in grants and scholarships awarded in 2025, and in 2025 launched a major Trans Healthcare Training Fund in partnership with state resources to expand gender-affirming care and provider training in Minnesota.

Founding & Regional Leadership

Founded in 1987 during the AIDS crisis by community members who created their own endowment fund, PFund has grown into the primary LGBTQ+ community foundation serving the Upper Midwest.

2025 Grantmaking Milestone

Awarded more than $2.1 million in grants, scholarships, and sponsorships in 2025 to nonprofits, grassroots initiatives, businesses, and individuals across the region.

Trans Healthcare Training Fund

In 2025 PFund directed a historic $715,000 investment to expand gender-affirming care and provider training in Minnesota through a legislatively supported Trans Healthcare Training Fund.
