The National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association (NWRA) is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) membership organization that supports wildlife rehabilitators, veterinarians, educators, and allied professionals through training, standards, publications, and networking. NWRA provides continuing education, publishes a peer-reviewed journal, and convenes an annual symposium that delivers RACE-approved veterinary continuing education and hands-on workshops. In the last few years NWRA has expanded member services and digital resources — reporting more than 1,500 professional members in 2023, broad global readership of its Wildlife Rehabilitation Bulletin, substantial on-demand continuing education content, and active scholarship and research grant programs to support professional development and evidence-based care.
Notable achievements
Annual Symposium — professional education
NWRA's 2023 symposium delivered 100+ hours of content (including RACE-approved CE), hands-on labs and workshops, and attracted 487 attendees from multiple countries, strengthening skills and veterinary collaboration across the field.
Membership and digital reach growth
Membership grew to about 1,548 professional members in 2023 (a reported 13% increase over 2022) and the NWRA website served over 100,000 unique visitors in 2023, expanding access to protocols, decision trees, and searchable content for rehabilitators worldwide.
Scholarships and research funding
NWRA awarded 17 individual scholarships in 2023 (totaling approximately $14,092) to support symposium attendance and training, and funded research grants (approximately $10,000 in 2023) to advance evidence-based wildlife rehabilitation practices.
