YWCA West Central Michigan

YWCA West Central Michigan is a long-established 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Grand Rapids that provides comprehensive, survivor-centered services for people affected by intimate partner violence, sexual assault, stalking, and child sexual abuse. Core services include a confidential emergency shelter (Sojourner), Project HEAL transitional and supportive housing, a 24-hour helpline, legal advocacy, counseling and support groups, supervised parenting and custody exchange, and medical-forensic (Nurse Examiner) examinations.

The organization pairs direct services with systems-change work: it participates in local coalitions (including the Domestic Violence Action Network), helped lead community efforts that contributed to the launch of Kent County’s domestic violence specialty court in 2024, and maintains public reporting (annual reports and audited financial statements). In recent years the YWCA has continued program expansion (including a 2022 expansion of its Nurse Examiner services) and has announced plans related to the sale of its historic 25 Sheldon Avenue facility while continuing service delivery.
