About GIRL SCOUTS OF MICHIGAN SHORE TO SHORE

Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore (GSMISTS) is a Girl Scouts council headquartered in Grand Rapids that serves girls across northern and western lower Michigan. The council operates a network of service centers and overnight camp properties and delivers the Girl Scout Leadership Experience through troop meetings, outdoor programs, STEM and entrepreneurship activities, and the annual Girl Scout Cookie Program.

In the last 2–3 years GSMISTS has expanded its community programming presence with a new, donor-backed DreamLab program center in Grand Rapids (opened 2026) that provides hands-on STEM, life skills, entrepreneurship and creative spaces for troops. The council remains an active, donor-facing 501(c)(3) with publicly filed Form 990 returns and ongoing partnerships with local and statewide organizations to support mental health, outdoor education, and youth leadership.

Notable achievements

Girl Scout DreamLab (Grand Rapids) — Opened 2026

Launched a modern program center (DreamLab) in Grand Rapids designed for hands-on STEAM, entrepreneurship, media, and maker-space activities; the space provides troop reservations, public drop-ins, and donor-supported programming designed to increase Girl Scout access in urban communities.

Sustained Camp & Outdoor Program Network

Maintains multiple council properties and program sites (including Camp Anna Behrens and Camp Woodlands plus regional 'little house' properties) that deliver resident camps, high-adventure activities, and outdoor skill-building to thousands of girls annually.

Large-scale Cookie & Program Funding

Operates a substantial Girl Scout Cookie program and fundraising operations that provide the majority of program revenues and local program support; recent council financial filings show net inventory sales (cookie program) in the multimillion-dollar range that underwrite year-round programming and property stewardship.
