Rockford Community Service Center, operating as North Kent Connect (NKC), is a 501(c)(3) community resource center based in Rockford, Michigan that serves northern Kent County. Founded by local pastors in the early 1970s, NKC offers a coordinated set of services including a client-choice healthy food pantry, rent and utility assistance, a thrift store, senior food programming, case management, free tax preparation, and workforce supports. NKC serves several thousand people each year across a broad rural service area and partners with regional agencies (for example, West Michigan Works! and the Kent County Health Department) to provide wraparound supports. Its STEP2 program is the organization’s signature initiative focused on long-term economic independence through goal setting, mentoring, and skills development.
