About THE OTHER WAY MINISTRIES

The Other Way Ministries is a Christ-centered community development organization serving the Westside of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The organization provides a mix of basic-needs services, community resource and outreach programs, and relational and economic supports designed to help local families achieve stability and growth. The Other Way operates a community resource model that includes food-access programs (community fresh markets), cooperative retail and distribution programs, enrollment and referral services, and family-focused programming. The organization has maintained tax-exempt status since 1981 and operates with regular public reporting of its finances and programs.

Expanded community food access (Fresh Market)

Launched and scaled a regular Fresh Market/mercado program to increase access to affordable produce for Westside residents, operated in partnership with local funders including Heart of West Michigan United Way and corporate partners.

Maintained multi-year operating budgets and program expansion in recent years, reporting an annual operating budget in the low‑millions and growing program service delivery across multiple fiscal years, enabling expanded outreach and service continuity.

Built ongoing partnerships with local funders and civic coalitions, including participation in county and city homelessness and community-support collaboratives that coordinate services across Grand Rapids.
