About HISPANIC CENTER OF WESTERN MICHIGAN INC

The Hispanic Center of Western Michigan is a bilingual, community-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1978 that provides culturally responsive social services, early childhood education, workforce training, youth programming, and navigation services to Latino families across West Michigan. Located in the Roosevelt Park neighborhood of Grand Rapids, the Center operates preschool classrooms (La Escuelita), GED and digital literacy classes in Spanish, workforce-development pathways (including One Workforce offerings and youth employment internships), and family support services that help clients access benefits, health care, and immigration navigation. In recent years the organization has implemented a FY2022–2025 strategic plan to expand program capacity, continued to run substantial food distribution and emergency relief initiatives, and undertaken fundraising and community-engagement campaigns (including an annual Hispanic Festival) to develop a larger community hub.

Developed and operates La Escuelita bilingual preschool classrooms in partnership with local education partners to increase preschool access and kindergarten readiness for children in vulnerable families.
