About GRAND RAPIDS SYMPHONIC BAND

Founded in 1978, the Grand Rapids Symphonic Band (GRSB) is an auditioned adult community wind ensemble based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The band presents a regular concert season (recent seasons have included five concerts, largely presented at Grandville High School Auditorium), maintains outreach performances across West Michigan, and operates educational programs including a Youth Soloist Competition and side-by-side rehearsals for advanced students. The organization is volunteer-driven and led by Music Director and Conductor Barry D. Martin (music director since 2004), and it programs a mix of standard and contemporary wind-band repertoire, commissions new works, and offers free or reduced-price admission options for students to support lifelong music learning. The GRSB maintains an active public schedule (including performances and conference appearances in the last 2–3 years) and holds federal tax-exempt status as a charitable organization.
