About LAND CONSERVANCY OF WEST MICHIGAN
The Land Conservancy of West Michigan is a 501(c)(3) land trust based in Grand Rapids that protects, restores, and manages ecologically important lands throughout West Michigan. The organization creates public nature preserves, supports communities and local governments in creating natural areas, and helps private landowners protect their land permanently. Founded in 1976, the Land Conservancy celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2026 and operates a large portfolio of preserves — reporting 165 properties, 13,097 acres, and 91 miles of shoreline across multiple counties. In recent years the organization has advanced a climate-responsive Strategic Conservation Plan, completed community-driven protection projects (including a 119-acre Kalamazoo River shoreline project), and expanded inclusive public access to preserved lands.
