About GRAND RAPIDS PRIDE CENTER

The Grand Rapids Pride Center (GRPC) is a long-standing 501(c)(3) community center serving 2-SLGBTQ+ people in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Since its founding (origins dating to the Lesbian Gay Community Network), the Center provides drop-in services, peer support groups, education and training, and operates signature programs such as a Health Equity Program and a Therapy Assistance Program. In the last 2–3 years GRPC has continued to expand public-facing programs and its annual Pride Festival, increasing festival attendance and moving to an extended (two-day) format in response to community demand. The organization has also emphasized accessibility and community accountability (including a Community Accountability Plan) while maintaining regular drop-in hours, expanded basic-needs support, and targeted outreach to youth, BIPOC, and trans communities.

Notable achievements

Decades of continuous service

Operates as the region's primary LGBTQ+ community center with roots back to the Lesbian Gay Community Network and continuous programming and public events since the late 1980s.

Grew its flagship Grand Rapids Pride Festival (thousands of attendees) and moved to an expanded, multi-day format to accommodate greater attendance, more programming, and increased vendor and nonprofit participation.

Program growth and service expansion

In the past few years the Center broadened direct service offerings — including the Health Equity Program, Therapy Assistance Program, expanded drop-in hours, peer support groups for youth, trans/nonbinary people, BIPOC groups, and basic-needs/resource distribution — increasing community access to affirming care and supports.
