About ACCESS OF WEST MICHIGAN

Access of West Michigan is a Grand Rapids–based nonprofit, founded in 1981, that coordinates community, congregational, and food-system responses to poverty across Kent County. The organization concentrates on three connected program areas — Congregation Connections (casework and coordinated financial assistance), Good Food Systems (Fresh Markets and local food investment), and Poverty Education (workshops and community learning). Access serves as a connector and coordinator, working with a network of more than 100 partner congregations and organizations to distribute urgent supports while building long-term, equitable systems.

Direct financial assistance and emergency support

Through congregational partnerships Access supported 731 families and individuals and distributed more than $335,000 to meet urgent needs during the most recent annual reporting period.

Investment in local food economy

The organization invested approximately $60,000 into the regional food economy and operated Fresh Markets to increase access to affordable, locally sourced, and culturally relevant food.

Poverty education reach

Access delivered workshops and educational programming that reached over 900 people, shifting awareness and building community understanding around the systemic causes of poverty.
