About Kent County Youth Agricultural Association

The Kent County Youth Agricultural Association (KCYAA) is a longstanding 501(c)(3) nonprofit that operates the annual Kent County Youth Fair and year-round youth agricultural programming in the Lowell, Michigan area. KCYAA runs exhibitions, educational opportunities, auctions and events that give young people hands-on experience with agriculture, animal husbandry, food and fiber projects, and life-skills development. In recent years KCYAA has expanded its facilities and capital campaign activity—developing The Grand Agricultural Center of West Michigan as a larger, modern fairgrounds and program campus to better serve youth exhibitors and community partners. The organization maintains active partnerships with local governments, foundations, businesses and farm organizations to support its programming and capital projects.

Notable achievements

Established long-running county youth fair

Operates the Kent County Youth Fair and related exhibitor programs (the organization has run a county youth fair since the 1930s), providing experiential agricultural education and market opportunities for youth.

Developed The Grand Agricultural Center of West Michigan

Acquired and developed a larger campus (the former Deer Run golf course site) to replace flood-prone city grounds, establishing a modern fairgrounds and facilities to host the annual fair and expanded year-round programming.

Launched capital campaign and facility build-out

Initiated the 'Raising Barns & Building Youth' capital campaign and related fundraising efforts to build new barns, show pavilions and educational infrastructure to increase capacity for youth exhibitors and community events.
