About EPILEPSY FOUNDATION OF MINNESOTA, INC.
Founded in 1954, the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota (EFMN) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves people with seizures across Minnesota and eastern North Dakota. The organization provides one-on-one support, statewide public education and seizure first-aid trainings, youth programs, camps, peer connection groups, and advocacy to improve access to care. EFMN operates a statewide donated-goods social enterprise that funds programs, runs regional United in Epilepsy walks, and leads state-level advocacy on epilepsy policy and access to seizure-detection technology. In recent years EFMN has been active in legislative advocacy, program expansion, and leadership transitions while maintaining publicly available audited financial filings and annual Form 990 disclosures.
Notable achievements
Medicaid coverage for seizure detection devices
Led successful advocacy resulting in Minnesota becoming the first state to pass a law (May 24, 2023) to cover seizure detection devices under Medicaid, expanding equitable access to life‑saving monitoring technology for people with epilepsy.
Sustainable donated-goods social enterprise
Operates a statewide donated-goods program that converts clothing and household donations into program revenue; the enterprise generates more than $1 million annually to fund services and outreach.
Leadership milestone and organizational continuity
Announced Jenna Carter as Executive Director on July 15, 2024, marking a leadership transition while celebrating the organization’s 70th anniversary and continued expansion of services and equity-focused strategy.
