About CHANGE INC

Change Inc. is a Saint Paul–based nonprofit that delivers education, workforce training, mental-health and family-support services for children, youth, young adults and families across the Twin Cities. Its core programs include GAP School (an alternative high school and YouthBuild program), the Community & School Collaborative (school-based mental health and mentoring), and the Change Institute (training, supervision and systems-change work). In recent years Change Inc. has scaled services and partnerships across Minneapolis and Saint Paul school districts and county systems, serving thousands annually (Community & School Collaborative serves over 1,200 youth each year) and operating on an annual budget in the neighborhood of $8–9M (FY2024–FY2025). The organization has expanded by adopting programs from other community providers and by formalizing strategic partnerships and program mergers to preserve and grow culturally responsive, trauma-informed services.

Notable achievements

GAP School outcomes

GAP School serves roughly 200 youth and young adults annually; in the 2023–24 year the school enrolled 187 students, awarded 36 diplomas, and reported that 72% of graduates were employed at graduation.

Large-scale school-based mental health

The Community & School Collaborative provides school-based mental health, mentoring and case management across the region, serving over 1,200 children annually and delivering services in 40+ schools.

Recent program growth and strategic consolidations

Since 2019 the organization has grown through strategic mergers and program adoptions (including the 2019 consolidation with Guadalupe Alternative Programs and adoption of East Side Neighborhood Services programs in December 2025) and completed a planned unification with Watercourse Counseling Center effective July 1, 2026 to preserve clinic and school-based therapy capacity.
