About LAKE STREET COUNCIL

The Lake Street Council is a long-standing 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports the economic health, cultural vitality, and recovery of the Lake Street commercial corridor in Minneapolis. It provides business support services, grant and predevelopment capital, placemaking/public art, marketing, and policy advocacy to help businesses and communities along Lake Street thrive. Since the civil unrest and pandemic disruptions beginning in 2020, the organization has managed large recovery and revitalization efforts (including the We Love Lake Street fund), administered grant and predevelopment programs, and worked with government and philanthropic partners to secure public and private investments in the corridor. In recent years the Council has continued targeted grantmaking, advocacy, and events to boost local businesses—especially entrepreneurs from communities of color and immigrant communities—while advancing a multi-year strategic vision for equitable redevelopment.
