Children's HeartLink
We save children’s lives by transforming pediatric heart care in underserved parts of the world.
About Children's HeartLink
Children's HeartLink is a Minnesota-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 41-1307457) that builds local capacity for pediatric cardiac care in low- and middle-income countries through long-term partnerships, training, and quality-improvement initiatives. The organization operates a train-the-trainer model, supports Centers of Excellence, and runs the International Quality Improvement Collaborative to benchmark and reduce perioperative mortality and infections. In recent years Children’s HeartLink has expanded partnerships (including entry into Bangladesh in 2022), published updated impact figures in its 2025 annual reporting cycle, and maintains audited financial statements for FY2023–FY2024.
Notable achievements
Large-scale reach and measurable training impact
As reported in its most recent annual reporting, Children’s HeartLink has reached 246,000+ children, trained 4,400+ local clinicians, logged 8,800+ hours donated by medical volunteers, and supports six Centers of Excellence.
Proven quality-improvement results through IQIC
Through the International Quality Improvement Collaborative (IQIC) — developed with partners including Boston Children’s Hospital — participating partner hospitals have realized substantial reductions in surgical site infections, bacterial sepsis and risk-adjusted mortality rates after joining the collaborative.
Strategic geographic expansion and sustained partnerships
Since adopting a Centers of Excellence and train-the-trainer strategy, the organization has expanded partnerships across Brazil, China, India, Malaysia, Vietnam and (beginning in 2022) Bangladesh, enabling sustained increases in local surgical capacity and complex case volume at partner hospitals.
