About MIDWEST ART CONSERVATION CENTER INC

Established in 1977 and based in Minneapolis, the Midwest Art Conservation Center (MACC) is a regional, donor-facing nonprofit conservation laboratory that provides museum-quality treatment, preventive conservation, emergency response, technical research, and training for museums, historical societies, libraries, artists, and the public. MACC operates a suite of services—paintings, paper, textile, objects and sculpture conservation—alongside workshops, fellowships, and outreach programs. In recent years the organization has combined hands-on treatment work with regional preservation field services and targeted fellowship training for Indigenous conservators.

Notable achievements

NEH Regional Preservation Field Services Award

Awarded major federal support to sustain MACC’s Regional Preservation Field Services program (3/1/2022–2/29/2024), providing funding to deliver preventive conservation workshops, surveys, disaster planning and grant-preparation assistance to hundreds of cultural institutions across the Upper Midwest and to support Native American conservation fellows.

Conservation of Grant Wood’s 'Corn Room' mural

Completed a multi-stage conservation treatment on Grant Wood’s 1926 'Corn Room' mural panels, performing more than a year of stabilization and treatment before the panels' return to public display at the Sioux City Art Center.

Native American Collections Care Fellowship (since 2018)

Established and sustained a fellowship program that places and trains Native American conservation fellows in hands-on preventive and collections-care work, building professional pathways and culturally informed care for Indigenous collections.
