METROPOLITAN CENTER FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING

Established in 1981, the Metropolitan Center for Independent Living (MCIL) is a nonprofit Center for Independent Living whose mission is to advance the independent living of people with disabilities by removing barriers and promoting choices. MCIL serves the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area and provides person-centered programs including benefits planning and vocational supports, housing access and home modification/ramp projects, information and referral services (Disability Linkage Line / Disability Hub MN), peer mentoring, youth transition, and consumer-directed personal care supports. In the last 2–3 years MCIL has expanded workforce and credentialing initiatives for direct care (including a major Bush Foundation award to pilot a college-accredited credential), received program accreditation renewal for its benefits-planning work, and launched the PCA College Service Corps to address the PCA/DSP workforce crisis.
