About CAPI USA

CAPI USA (Communities Advancing Prosperity for Immigrants) is an immigrant-led, donor-facing 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Minneapolis/Brooklyn Center, Minnesota that provides culturally responsive services to refugees, immigrants, and their families. The organization delivers integrated programs across Community Advocacy, Economic Empowerment, Refugee Services, and Basic Needs (including a culturally specific food shelf) and operates multi-site services in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center.

CAPI serves thousands of people each year (more than 10,000 individuals annually reported in public materials) with workforce training, benefits navigation, housing stability, financial capability and civic engagement programming. In recent years CAPI has been actively expanding its Immigrant Opportunity Center in Brooklyn Center through a capital campaign and construction project to add entrepreneurship, workforce and community space.

Notable achievements

Major philanthropic investment (2024)

Received a $2 million unrestricted gift from a national philanthropic donor in 2024 that substantially increased CAPI’s capacity to expand services and build a community fund for housing and closing-cost support.

Federal expansion grant (2024)

Awarded a $1 million federal community project grant in 2024 to support expansion of the Immigrant Opportunity Center and new program space for workforce, tech and entrepreneurship services.

Program scale and measurable service delivery (2024)

In FY2024 CAPI reported program outputs showing broad impact: Economic Empowerment programs served over 1,100 unduplicated individuals and Basic Needs programming served roughly 7,200 unduplicated individuals (the food shelf served nearly 1,900 households / 5,600+ individuals), alongside targeted refugee/housing supports.
