About WASHINGTON COUNTY STAR TRAIL ASSOC

The Washington County Star Trail Association is a volunteer-driven snowmobile club and registered 501(c)(3) that marks, maintains, and grooms an extensive network of public snowmobile trails in Washington County, Minnesota. The organization works with private landowners, local businesses, municipalities, Washington County, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to secure grant-in-aid funding, operate charitable gaming locations, and manage trail maintenance; recent years have seen state grant support and investments in grooming equipment to support safe, accessible winter recreation.

Trail network maintenance

Maintains and grooms approximately 140 miles of marked snowmobile trails across Washington County, supporting recreation and connecting riders to local businesses and communities.

Regular recipient of Minnesota DNR grant-in-aid funding; Washington County continued to administer DNR grant funds as a pass-through (including a $49,848 allocation for the 2025–2026 season) to reimburse trail maintenance and grooming costs.

Equipment investments to improve grooming

Upgraded maintenance capacity with major equipment purchases in recent years, including taking delivery of a Prinoth HUSKY groomer (2021) and approval/purchase of a trail grooming drag in 2024 to improve trail quality and safety.
