About WOMEN OF NATIONS

Women of Nations (WON) is a Minnesota-based 501(c)(3) domestic violence and victim services organization founded in 1982. The organization operates the Eagle’s Nest emergency shelter in Saint Paul and provides culturally grounded crisis intervention, advocacy, case management, youth programming, and prevention education oriented toward Native American communities while serving women and children of all backgrounds. WON combines direct shelter and support services with outreach, safety planning, and culturally specific programming informed by Native values and practices. In recent years the organization has maintained audited financial statements, sustained multi-source funding (including federal VOCA awards and foundation grants), and reported annual revenues in the low millions to support program operations and shelter capacity.

Notable achievements

Established Eagle’s Nest Shelter

Founded in 1982 and expanding into emergency housing in the early 1990s, WON operates the Eagle’s Nest Shelter as a culturally specific refuge for women and children escaping domestic and sexual violence; the program has historically served several hundred people per year.

Sustained program growth & financial health

WON reported multi‑million dollar annual revenues in recent Form 990 filings and runs audited financials with a high share of spending on program services (approximately three quarters of expenses), demonstrating sustained operational capacity.

Secured multi-year funding and partnerships

In the last 2–3 years WON received foundation grants (including awards from the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation and Otto Bremer Trust) and longstanding federal VOCA grant support, enabling continued shelter operations, advocacy, and prevention programming.
