About WHITE BEAR AREA FOOD SHELF

White Bear Area Food Shelf (WBAFS) is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit food shelf based in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, serving residents of the White Bear Lake area with curbside pickup, an in-person Community Market, mobile markets, home deliveries, and child-focused weekend food supplements (KidPacks). In response to rising need in recent years, WBAFS has expanded services and locations — including opening a storefront Community Market in 2024 — and operates partnerships with local grocery retailers, county agencies, and regional food systems partners to rescue and distribute fresh food and provide connection to additional support services.

Notable achievements

Opened Community Market (2024)

Launched a second storefront location — the Community Market at 2446 County Road F (ribbon cutting and open house in May 2024) — providing in-person shopping, daily rescued fresh food from local grocery stores, and on-site partner office space for human services.

Scaled 2023 distribution

In 2023 the organization substantially expanded operations: curbside pickup distributed 901,376 pounds of groceries (a ~50% increase from prior year), WBAFS recorded 43,705 visits and reported 134,682 people impacted across its programs.

Programs for children, seniors, and homebound neighbors

Operates KidPacks that supplied weekly weekend food to 300 elementary students in the White Bear Area School District in 2023, conducted 3,618 home deliveries of fresh groceries, and distributed 17,713 pounds through mobile markets serving senior housing, schools, and faith communities.
