The Special Intermediate School District 916 Foundation (branded as the 916 Education Foundation) is an independent 501(c)(3) charitable organization that raises funds to augment resources for Northeast Metro 916 programs. It focuses on student scholarships, specialized equipment, program development, staff development and program grants that directly benefit students served by the intermediate district. The Foundation serves the member districts of Northeast Metro 916 and funds classroom-ready items, program grants, and student scholarships. In recent years the Foundation has continued active fundraising (including an annual Gala), awarded program grants to district classrooms and programs, and maintained a scholarship program for graduating seniors from 916 programs.

Awarded over $19,000 in non‑renewable scholarships to 26 graduating seniors in May 2025 to support post‑secondary education (scholarships ranged from $500 to $1,500).

Program grants for 2022–2023

Distributed more than $47,000 in program grants during the 2022–2023 school year to purchase classroom equipment, sensory supports, technology and program supplies across multiple 916 programs.

Student skills and revenue from applied learning

Supported applied‑learning initiatives such as an Urban Boat Builders boat‑building program; finished boats have been received by the Foundation and auctioned at the annual Gala to raise funds and provide real‑world skills for students.
