About MINNESOTA COALITION FOR THE HOMELESS INC

The Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless (MCH) is a statewide, member-driven 501(c)(3) organization that organizes advocates, service providers, people with lived experience, and partners to advance public policy and community solutions to prevent and end homelessness in Minnesota. MCH conducts legislative advocacy, research, training, and statewide convenings (including an annual conference and Homeless Day on the Hill) to influence state funding and policy; it reports roughly 100 member organizations and sustained advocacy capacity dating back to its tax-exempt status in the late 1980s. The organization is an active, donor-facing charity with a public website, recent policy publications and press activity (including a Policy Agenda released for 2025, a pilot advocacy fellowship launched in 2023, and Form 990 filings through 2024), and ongoing engagement with Minnesota’s legislature and statewide coalitions.

Notable achievements

Secured large state housing investments

Through sustained advocacy and coalition work, MCH reports helping secure nearly $600 million in state funds for affordable housing development and services that benefit people experiencing homelessness across Minnesota.

Launched Advocacy Fellowship (pilot)

In 2023 MCH launched a pilot advocacy fellowship to develop career pathways for leaders with lived experience of homelessness; the program completed its first year in 2024 and expanded participant engagement in legislative advocacy.

High-impact convening and mobilization

MCH’s annual conference and Homeless Day on the Hill regularly convene more than 1,000 advocates, service providers, policymakers, and people with lived experience, amplifying grassroots testimony and helping shape state policy agendas (including the Policy Agenda 2025).
