About Dakota Valley Symphony & Chorus

Dakota Valley Symphony & Chorus is a volunteer 501(c)(3) community orchestra and chorus based in Burnsville, Minnesota, founded in 1986. The organization presents a regular concert season at the Ames Center and a series of free Summer Pops performances that serve the south-metro Twin Cities area.

The organization supports local composers and young soloists through premieres and an annual Young Artists Competition, and it extends music-making into schools, businesses, and senior living facilities. Programming, fundraising, and operations are supported by grants, business sponsorships, ticket sales, fundraising campaigns, and public arts appropriations.

Notable achievements

40th Anniversary

Marked four decades of continuous service to Dakota County and the south-metro community in 2026, maintaining an active seasonal concert schedule since its 1986 founding.

Young Artists Competition

Runs an annual Young Artists Competition whose winners are featured as soloists on season concerts (most recently incorporated in the April 19, 2026 Young Artists' Concert and festival finale performances).

Community Summer Pops & Premieres

Presents multiple free Summer Pops outdoor concerts each year and programs new works by Minnesota composers, increasing local access to orchestral music.
