About CENTER FOR VETERANS RESEARCH AND EDUCATION

The Center for Veterans Research and Education (CVRE) is a Minneapolis-based 501(c)(3) research corporation established to administer and support approved medical research and education activities for the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. CVRE was incorporated in 1989 and functions as the VA‑affiliated nonprofit vehicle for federal, state, industry, and foundation awards that advance veterans' health.

In the last 2–3 years CVRE has continued to administer major federally funded projects and cooperative agreements, support VA research centers and clinical trials, and provide seed grants, education, and research administration services to investigators affiliated with the Minneapolis VA and partner institutions. The organization operates a small professional staff and a governing board composed of VA clinical and research leaders to oversee grant administration, contracting, and educational programming.

Notable achievements

CVRE administers federal grants and cooperative agreements on behalf of Minneapolis VA investigators, including multi‑year NIH/NINDS and VA‑funded projects awarded in recent years (example: a cooperative UG3 award to support non‑opioid chronic pain implementation research).

Sustained program service scale

In recent fiscal years CVRE has handled program services revenue in the multi‑million dollar range through federal and industry awards, enabling clinical trials, centers, and research translation activities at the Minneapolis VA.

Longstanding VA research partner (since 1989)

Founded as a VA‑affiliated research corporation in 1989, CVRE has provided uninterrupted grant administration, training, and research support to VA investigators for decades, evolving its mission and governance to meet contemporary research needs.
