About MINNEAPOLIS SAILING CENTER

Minneapolis Sailing Center is a 501(c)(3) community sailing school based at Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis that teaches sailing to people of all ages and abilities. Founded in 1989, MSC operates classes, camps, membership programs, high-school teams, racing, and community outreach with an emphasis on inclusion and affordability.

MSC runs scholarships, Free Sailing Sunday events, group field trips, and partnerships with local organizations to expand access to on‑the‑water experiences. The organization reports large seasonal participation (over 4,000 participants in its most recent season) and publishes annual reports and IRS Form 990s to document program and financial activity.

In recent years MSC has increased outreach and program offerings: it published its 2024 Annual Report (April 2, 2025), was honored by US Sailing for outreach and inclusion (Jim Kilroy Outstanding Outreach & Inclusion Award, announced February 17, 2025), and announced new program launches and pilots for 2025–2026 (including Ensign Explorers, an ASA 101 keelboat test-out pilot and new themed adult classes).
