About AMERICAN INDIAN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

American Indian Community Development Corporation (AICDC), founded in 1992 and based in Minneapolis, develops and operates culturally specific housing and supportive services for American Indian people in the Twin Cities metro. The organization centers low-barrier, harm-reduction permanent supportive housing and complementary services such as withdrawal management/detox, harm-reduction housing, and elder housing. AICDC operates the Anishinabe campus and a number of scattered-site supportive housing projects serving people with substance use disorders and elders. In the last 2–3 years AICDC has continued to manage and expand its housing portfolio and resident services (including a 2024 connectivity upgrade to provide in-building Wi‑Fi for residents), and remains an active partner with tribal governments, Minnesota agencies, Hennepin County and regional philanthropic funders.

Notable achievements

Anishinabe Wakiagun — Longstanding Supportive Housing

Operated since 1996, Anishinabe Wakiagun is a 45-bed permanent supportive housing residence serving primarily American Indian individuals with substance use disorders.

Anishinabe Bii Gii Wiin & Anishinabe III — Campus Expansion

Expanded the Anishinabe campus with Anishinabe Bii Gii Wiin (32 units, opened 2016) and Anishinabe III (40 single-room-occupancy permanent supportive units, opened December 2021), adding culturally grounded, low-barrier housing in south Minneapolis.

Diverse supportive and elder housing portfolio

Owns and operates multiple additional permanent supportive and elder housing sites (including the 47-unit Bii Di Gain Dash Anwebi HUD 202 elder housing project) plus scattered-site supportive units that together provide culturally specific, affordable housing options for Native American individuals and elders.
