About AMERICAN BRAIN FOUNDATION

The American Brain Foundation (EIN 41-1717098) is a Minneapolis-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that funds and accelerates research across the full spectrum of brain and nervous system diseases and disorders. The Foundation was created to support early-career and established investigators through targeted grant programs and large-scale awards that apply a “Cure One, Cure Many” philosophy—seeking discoveries that advance treatments across multiple brain conditions. In recent years the Foundation has substantially expanded its grantmaking (including Next Generation Research Grants and the Cure One, Cure Many Awards), hosted national fundraising and visibility events, and deepened partnerships with clinical and scientific organizations to translate research into better diagnosis, treatment, and prevention for patients and families.

Notable achievements

Major grantmaking: nearly $60M to researchers

Since inception the Foundation has distributed close to $60 million to researchers across many brain diseases, supporting hundreds of investigators and advancing translational research that has helped grantees secure further federal funding.

Record-year grant awards (2025–2026)

The Foundation reported record annual grantmaking in the mid-2020s—awarding more than $5.7 million in 2025 and continuing to ramp support into 2026 by funding multi-million dollar Cure One, Cure Many initiatives and distributing over $9 million in research grants to numerous research teams.

Next Generation Research Grants program

The Next Generation Research Grants program has funded dozens of early-career clinician-scientists across diverse brain conditions, with a high downstream success rate—most awardees go on to secure NIH or equivalent national funding.
