About MINNESOTA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA

The Minnesota Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), founded in 1993 in Minneapolis, is recognized as the first GLBTQ+ orchestra in the United States. The MPO presents regular concert seasons, commissions new work, and programs repertoire that foregrounds composers and performers from underrepresented communities.

The organization operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and maintains an active public presence (season programming, fundraisers, and community events). In recent seasons the MPO has continued concert programming (including a 2025–26 season listed as its 33rd season), co-commissions new works, and receives institutional support from regional arts funders.

Financially and administratively the MPO files annual IRS Form 990 returns and reports operating activity and contributions in recent years; it continues to recruit musicians, present concerts, and raise donor support in the Twin Cities area.
