About The Loppet Foundation Inc.

The Loppet Foundation is a Minneapolis-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that organizes year-round outdoor events, youth programs, and trail operations to increase equitable access to outdoor recreation. It operates large public festivals and competitive races, runs youth development programs (Trail Kids, Junior Loppet, school partnerships), and manages programming and trail work in Theodore Wirth Park. In recent years the organization has expanded community-centered programming and equity work, convened an Equity Advisory Team and environmental initiatives, and partnered with state and national sport bodies to host high-profile events. The Loppet also runs arts, paddling, mountain biking, and senior-focused offerings alongside its skiing and trail events.

Notable achievements

Hosted 2024 COOP FIS Loppet Cup

Co-hosted a FIS Cross Country World Cup event in Minneapolis (2024), one of the only World Cups staged in a major U.S. metropolitan area in recent decades, raising the organization’s international profile.

Trailhead facility opened

Opened and operates The Trailhead, a dedicated outdoor recreation and community facility in Theodore Wirth Park that supports year-round programming and events.

Year‑round reach and youth impact

Maintains a broad program footprint—organizing 50+ events annually and reaching tens of thousands through events, classes, and clubs, including over 2,000 youth participants and more than 1,300 youth from underserved North Minneapolis partnerships.
