About AVENUES FOR YOUTH

Avenues for Youth is a Minneapolis-based nonprofit that provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, community-based host homes, rapid rehousing and holistic supportive services to young people ages 16–24 and their children who are experiencing homelessness. Programs combine safe housing with case management, education and career supports, and wellness services tailored to young people’s goals and identities. In the last 2–3 years Avenues has continued to scale services across multiple program sites (including shelter and transitional living, the ConneQT host-home program for LGBTQ+ youth, and a Young Families rapid-rehousing program), published audited financial statements, and advanced a capital project to expand trauma-informed shelter capacity to improve outcomes for youth exiting homelessness.

Notable achievements

Clients served (FY23)

In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023 Avenues provided shelter, transitional housing, and supportive services to 284 young people ages 16–24, reflecting sustained program reach across shelter, transitional living, host homes, young families supports, and aftercare.

Strong host-home outcomes (ConneQT)

Avenues’ ConneQT host-home program supported youth who identify as LGBTQ+; in FY23 ConneQT hosted nine young people and, of the five youth who moved out of host homes that year, 100% transitioned into stable living arrangements.

Major facility expansion underway

Avenues formed a real-estate support entity and is constructing a new three-story shelter project (including transitional beds, first-step apartments, and on-site services) to increase trauma-informed capacity; the project was planned for completion in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026.
