About TEXTILE CENTER OF MINNESOTA

Textile Center of Minnesota is a national center for fiber art that operates year-round galleries, an artisan retail shop, a large circulating textile library, a professional dye lab and dye garden, and a comprehensive education program of classes and workshops for all ages and skill levels. Founded as a nonprofit in 1994 and recognized as tax-exempt by the IRS (EIN 41-1790700), Textile Center serves artists, students, and the public through rotating exhibitions, community outreach (including youth programming), artist fellowships, and major public events such as its annual Textile Garage Sale. In the past few years the organization has continued to publish annual reports (including a 2023–2025 report), host threaded exhibition initiatives and community-facing retail and reuse programs, and administer the McKnight Fellowships for Fiber Artists.

Textile Center administers the McKnight Fellowships for Fiber Artists, awarding two $25,000 unrestricted fellowships annually and providing fellows with exhibition opportunities, professional development, mentorship, and visibility in Textile Center programs.

Extensive public textile library & resource center

The Center maintains the Pat O’Connor Library (one of the nation’s largest circulating textile libraries), an Ellen Erede Wells Dye Lab, and a dye garden, and offers more than 200 classes and workshops annually alongside sustained youth education and outreach.

Long-running community reuse events

Textile Center operates widely attended community events (notably the annual Textile Garage Sale and seasonal shop events such as the Slow Fashion Sale and The Stashery) that repurpose donated materials, support regional artists, and expand public access to fiber art.
