About WE WIN INSTITUTE INC

WE WIN Institute, Inc. is a Minneapolis-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that strengthens academic outcomes for children ages 5–18 through a culturally relevant curriculum emphasizing reading, writing, critical thinking, and visual & performing arts. The organization centers Black history, literature, and cultural pride in its programming and operates a suite of programs—including We Win When We Read, Women of Distinction, Men of Distinction, and seasonal/community events—designed to raise literacy, leadership, and resilience among participating youth. Over decades of operation WE WIN has expanded community partnerships, secured philanthropic support, and established an education hub and community programming that combine literacy, food justice, and intergenerational learning to serve families across the Twin Cities area.

Notable achievements

Opened permanent education hub

WE WIN opened its first permanent 12,000-square-foot home at 2801 S. Wayzata Blvd in Minneapolis, creating dedicated space for a cultural reading room, teaching kitchen, community room, and outdoor gardens to support year-round programming.

Broad reach — thousands of children served

Across its history WE WIN has served thousands of children (more than 6,000 participants reported in organizational summaries), providing ongoing after-school, mentoring, and literacy programs that support school success and college attendance for program alumni.

Local food and nourishment impact

WE WIN’s community gardens and food programs have produced substantial local harvests (the gardens yielded over a thousand pounds of produce in a recent year) that are used in hands-on teaching kitchen sessions and distributed for community food access.
