About Mendota Mdewakanton Dakota Tribal Community
The Mendota Mdewakanton Dakota Tribal Community (MMDTC) is a Minnesota-based 501(c)(3) tribal nonprofit organized to preserve and revitalize Dakota culture, language, and community life around Mdote (the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers).
The organization runs cultural and educational programming (including Dakota language classes, traditional arts instruction, and public events such as an annual powwow), maintains archival materials and enrollment resources, and advocates for protection of Dakota sacred sites and increased public understanding of Dakota history.
In recent years MMDTC has expanded archival and programmatic activity through competitive grants and regular donor support; its recent Form 990 filings reflect growing revenues and use of funds for program services, community education, and operating support.
