CULTURAL WELLNESS CENTER

The Cultural Wellness Center (CWC), founded in 1996 and based in South Minneapolis, is a community-initiated nonprofit that promotes health, healing, and cultural wellness—especially among people of African descent. The organization centers cultural knowledge and practices as foundational to individual and community health, combining spiritual, emotional, and cultural approaches with public health strategies. CWC operates a range of programs including community development and research, leadership development, cultural education and reconnection, entrepreneurship support, and a Health Institute offering trainings and certifications (for example doulas and cultural health practitioners). In recent years CWC has expanded place-based work through initiatives such as the Community Health Hub Kitchen at Midtown Global Market and the Dreamland on 38th project to establish a national headquarters and cultural economic hub, and it continues to convene intergenerational gatherings and professional trainings (for example its Cultural Conclave).
